Folks opposed to the room-sharing site celebrated last week’s ruling, which ordered the eviction of a rent-stabilized tenant for listing his Hell’s Kitchen apartment.

The news Friday that a Manhattan Housing Court judge ordered the eviction of a rent-stabilized tenant for listing his Hell’s Kitchen apartment on Airbnb was cause for celebration in the anti-Airbnb community of lawmakers, hotel-union operatives and affordable-housing advocates. Moreover, it signaled the arrival of a powerful ally: the Related Cos., one of the largest owners of luxury residential properties in New York. “Related is clearly saying they’re not done going after people who rent apartments illegally on Airbnb,” said one anti-Airbnb operative.
