- Marketing has been one of airbnb’s great strengths, and millions of dollars in venture capital can buy some great marketing. Although valued at an estimated $10 billion, airbnb portrays itself as a humble home sharing service that helps hosts make ends meet and enjoy wonderful guests. It does this, but host-resident “private room” rentals (which airbnb emphasizes) are only one part of airbnb’s business. airbnb’s host-absent “entire place” rentals are more problematic.
